Carrier Shell: Waste Matters
Throughout much of 2019 we worked closely with architect, educator, and author Nikole Bouchard, designing her book Waste Matters: Adaptive Reuse for Productive Landscapes (Routledge). The book explores strategies for reusing waste materials for the built environment and beyond. In addition to the layout, we created a series of deconstructed landscape illustrations for the cover and interior. In celebration of the upcoming release of the book, we've created a commemorative print! The limited edition print, reworks these digital illustrations back into physical form. Along the way, we've experimented with additive finishing techniques to give the work a more dimensional and tactile edge, subverting traditional approaches to the medium. We've used a UV gloss varnish to highlight all the negative space of the image (the white areas and discrete portions of the abstract imagery) as well as creating a dimensional meta-image vignette with an experimental "puff-additive" approach to traditional halftone printing.
