A Race in Space
A Race in Space, was created as part of our 2020 exhibition, Inchworm. The works in the exhibition explored a simple notion; when does the surface stop and the image begin? This large multi-panel painting uses a grid of thirty five foldable boards as a substrate allowing intuitive and autonomous mark making to coalesce into a super structural image. Produced in three phases, the work slowly moved from general to specific as the free form marks were edited through systematic masking and rendering of shapes. The piece has a pressurized surface quality that only a mediated image plane can produce.
