CalArts Practicum
California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA, 2012 & 2016, Invitation by Scott Zukowski
In the both 2012 and 2016 we were invited to lecture and lead a workshop with CalArts undergraduate graphic design students. The school has been a beacon for expressive post-modern graphic design following the tenure of American graphic masters Ed Fella and Scott Zukowski. Taking over CalArts sprawling printshop for a week, we engaged students in a series of experimental screen print workshops, aiming to foster an improvisatory approach to form finding and graphic solutions. In 2012, we lead students through the production of a collaborative improvised screen printed poster series. Visiting again in 2016, we guided students through the production of a group print portfolio taking advantage of analog stencil-making techniques that focused on observation and chance operation.
