“Waiting Out The Rain” was an exhibit Sonnenzimmer organized together with Alex Fuller of the Post Family.

The exhibit was a stark hommage to Roma culture in modern Kosovo in which Swiss photographer, Ester Vonplon, paired her own photographs with those taken by the Roma children that she befriended while teaching photography workshops in Rahovec/Orahovac, a village in the South of Kosovo.
This work successfully documents the biting realities of a post-war environment through the eyes of an objective outsider and those of the people who experienced the war first hand. The work melds into an honest account of everyday life that is both heart wrenching and boldly human.
Along with the photographs, Vonplon presented a slide show of additional images from her time in Kosovo. The presentation was accompanied by violinist, Erica Dicker, and electronic musician, Ryan Ingebritsen. The duo interpreted the images in real time incorporating field recordings captured by Vonplon during her stay in Rahovec/Orahovac.
In addition to setting up the show, one of the highlights for us was to produce an exclusive edition of five photographs as silkscreen print (edition of 5 each) with Ester. It took us a bit over three weeks but it was worth the experiment and time. Ester was on site at Sonnenzimmer to oversee the production. In conjunction with the art show, we produced a show poster as well as monoprints that were used as dustjackets for her catalogue.
If you would like to purchase one of the exclusive silkscreen print of the show “Waiting out the rain” or buy an exclusive numbered catalogue, this will be available through the Post Family store.

Ester recently just got nominated as a finalist for the Swiss photography award for her work in Kosovo.
