The Swan King, new EP out now!
We don’t get asked often to make any art or posters for fast and furious metal bands – although we’d love to do more work for this music genre! Nick and I have a big soft-spot (oops, that’s a softie lingo there) for metal. I mean, if you love typography, there’s no way you couldn’t be completely fascinated by the illegible, symmetrical, systematic applied lettering found on metal albums. It throws all typography rules overboard making room for free experimentation. We are still a bit too up-tight to fully understand the free reign that others have explored in this field. We went at it very conventional mixing elements of the font Swabacher (very German, DIN-classification: Rund-Gotisch) and a Trade Gothic (DIN-classification: Serifenlose) to come up with this simple type treatment. It ended up functioning as a good logotype. For more on type classification go to this awesome overview.
